Buying a vehicle can be extremely exciting and extremely intimidating. Knowing your budget, a down payment (if any), and the make/model you are looking for can help tremendously. The one thing you do not want to do is go in half cocked and get talked into something you do not really want and cannot possibly afford.
When you are ready to go in, make sure you are prepared. Shopping can be stressful but fun at the same time. They give you a price, you come back with another, back and forth. It can be exhilarating. Also be aware that the sales person job is to sell. They will try to sell you everything but what you want and asked for. Don't sweat it or let it get to you. That's their job. Your job is to so no thank you and get them back to where you want to be. In that ride of your choosing, in or under budget.
When you are ready to make that final leap you will know. Get a good night sleep and start off fresh in the morning. Bring everything with you that you may need. Including, but not limited to, employment, contact numbers, etc. This experience is long. You will go through a gamut of emotions as it goes on. If you have young ones, leave them at with relatives. This can be too much for an adult, let alone little ones.
Make sure you also have funds for insuring that new purchase. If you know what you what you want, you can get a good idea of the type of insurance payments you may be making. This will also help you to budget better. By all means, do comparison shopping on this as well. Don't just go for the first deal or quote you receive.
Go to your bank beforehand, if at all possible. You can use this to your benefit, especially if you have been a customer for a while. Your bank can have some awesome financing options available. They have things for new first-time buyers for vehicles just as they do with houses. Ask them. You may be surprised at what they can do.
Get ready to go out there and face the world. Be strong, be firm, stand by your decision and you cannot go wrong. Take the time to do the research. Find deals on a couple of different cars you may be interested in and happy hunting!
