Naturally, people hope to achieve a good life. Most people equate this with having a successful career and personal life, and they devote the majority of their time to this. Unfortunately, this means they often ignore an important component in living the good life: their health and fitness levels.

Living a good life means you should strive to live a balanced life. Ignoring the need for proper exercise and diet will contribute to an unbalanced life, which can often lead to significant physical and emotional health problems.

This need for balance is often what leads people to lace up their sneakers and start running, as running has been proven to be effective for warding off physical ailments as well as those caused by stress. Being in good physical condition as well as managing stress effectively leads a person to a very well balanced, good life, and this is just one of the many benefits of running.

Many experts agree that running burns more calories in an hour than any other type of cardiovascular activity. While there are many factors (speed, terrain, weight of the individual, etc.) that contribute to just how many calories are burned, even light jogging has been found to burn several hundred calories an hour.

It also works several major muscle groups at once. Many people have discovered that running is a great way to get into the best shape of their lives while also dropping a few extra pounds in the process. The amount of fitness that running can add to your quest to live a good life means that you won't have to feel guilty if you want desert or second helpings at dinner.

When asked about running, many runners report that their sport contributes to them living the good life by giving them what is known as "the runner's high." This is caused by a release of endorphins caused by running that makes the runner experience a "high" feeling.

As well as releasing these endorphins, running has been shown to slow down the aging process by increasing the amount of human growth hormone that is released. It also decreases muscle and bone loss.

Running requires very little initial investment. All you need to slow down the aging process and increase your overall level of health is a pair of sneakers and some comfortable clothes. And one of the greatest benefits of running is that it can be done anywhere - you can start right outside your own front door! This simplicity makes it a perfect hobby for those with limited finances or those who want to stay away from complicated, gear-intensive sports.

Think about somebody you admire for living a good life - no doubt, they make sure to get some type of exercise a few times a week to help them stay healthy and fit as well as reduce stress. Why not think about trying running as your way to start living a good life?
