You can have the best product on the internet. You can have the best product in the history of mankind but if you do not learn how to write sales letters that sell no one will be convinced of your products merits.
People love to hear stories and this hold true for sales letters. And people like to feel like you are speaking to them personally. Do you like to watch television commercials? If you do then you are certainly in the minority. Besides the fact that people who produce commercials, at least for American TV, think that the more inane their commercials are the more they will sell, commercials insult people's intelligence. But they must be working because they keep making them.
They get away with this because people want to keep watching for their favorite program to come back on the screen. But you cannot do this with an online sales letter. If you are insulting or stupid people will simply move on to the next website. The internet is a very competitive market and only the creative, compelling sales letters are read all the way through.
Write your sales letter as if you were writing to a friend. In fact before you do anything else, write a letter to your friend. Explain in your letter how you came up with your product. Tell a story of how your product helped you or someone you know. Tell your friend why he or she should have the product and how your product can help them. Do not lecture your friend. Simply explain why your product will help make their life better.
Be honest in your sales letter. In fact first write your letter to your mother. Let her know all about your product. Tell her how you developed it. Tell her why she would benefit from your product. If you are not honest with your mother, you are not honest with anyone. But we know you are honest with your mom.
Now that you have an honest outline to work from. Include a story in your sales pitch. People love stories. Tell a story about how you created your product, and how you benefited from your product. Better yet, tell a story about how someone else used your product and how their life improved. But remember you do not want to guilty of false advertising. Stories that are embellished are not so bad as false testimonials. If you have an actual person with an actual testimonial that you can reference then use it. But do not make up testimonials. You can get in trouble by doing that.
Use story telling methods in your sales letter. A story has a beginning, a background. A story has a middle, something about how this person's life was not working out. An ending to your story is where the person used your product and all is now great for that person.
Your actual sales copy should be made up of many short paragraphs composed of short sentences. Include bullit points. And have a lot of white or open space. People back away from reading blocks of complicated text.
Also, take time to see what is already out there. There are many fine sales letter online. Do not copy them right out. But use other people's work as an outline for what you want to write. So tell a story, be personaly, and respect your reader. Do that and you will have a great sales letter to match your great product.
